Open Question: help understanding the events of the holodomor?

Hi, everyone, I just wanted to more about this tragic event, so I have a few questions that I expect to be answer by the kind people who wants to help me: 1. which were the causes of the holodomor? 2. why isn't it consider a genocide by some countries? 3. why American education sistem rarely talks about it (or give more importance to it) since this event took away more lifes than the holocaust did, and happened almost at the same time?
